Child Rights and You is an Indian Non Government Organization (NGO), which works towards the welfare of children and works towards ensuring the well being and development of children belonging to the underprivileged sections of the society.
The CRY NGO aims to enable and empower collective action from people towards the goal of children rights.
History of CRY
Child Rights and You was founded in 1979 by Rippan Kaur, who was an airline purser. Initially beginning as Child Relief and You, with a comparatively narrower role than its present status, it aimed at sensitising the people towards the cause of building an ecosystem for a happier childhood for many Indian children.
Empowering Non Government Organizations and other community driven programs already working towards the goal of children welfare is and was an important role in the beginning years of the organisation.
Organisation
Children Rights and You consists of thousands of interns and volunteers from different walks of life working towards the cause of child rights in various projects spread across the country.
The top leadership of Children Rights and You consists of Regional Directors responsible for different operating regions and also Functional Directors who are responsible towards specific areas of operations.
Child Rights and You depends upon public funding through donations to sustain its different operations across the country. Additionally, the NGO also has a Board of Trustees which consists of CEOs, Academicians, and other eminent personalities.
Child Rights and You is committed to transparency and it publicly releases its annual reports.
Projects and Recognition
Child Rights and You has different projects and initiatives working with local communities at grassroot levels to shape a nurturing and inclusive ecosystem for optimal growth for children. Various campaigns have been launched by CRY to advance its cause, such as :
- #LearnNotEarn towards the issue of child labour.
- #NotYet towards the issue of child marriage in India.
Having been featured in many newspaper columns for its works, Child Rights and You has been recognised for its works such as Most trusted NGO, 2018 (The Brand Trust Report).
