PCMC stands for the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. It is a civic body located in the Indian city of Pune. The body looks after the civic services of the region of Pimpri Chinchwad, an area located in the western parts of Pune.
It has to govern a total area of nearly 180 km2, it looks after the 1.7 million people of the city. It was founded on 11th October 1982, before which it was known as the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Council.
Administration of PCMC
All the major executive powers rested in the hands of a Municipal Commissioner, personnel appointed by the State Government. Rajesh Patil holds the post of Municipal Commissioner from December 2020. PCMC has a total of 128 seats. The representatives holding these seats are called ‘corporators’ and are headed by a mayor and a deputy mayor.
The last election for the PCMC took place in February 2017 and is next expected to be held in February 2022. Currently, Bharatiya Janata Party holds the majority position with 77 out of 128 seats with the Nationalist Congress Party coming next with 36 seats.
History of PCMC
In 1970, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Council was established by Annasaheb Magar. In 1975, it received a new status of A from C and in 1982, it emerged as a Municipal Corporation.
It comprises 7 neighboring villages constituting 86 km2. By the end of 1997, more villages were bundled into it to form a region of 181 square kilometers.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation looks after various amenities in the city. Some of them include:
